Antigone
In the aftermath of civil war, King Creon institutes an order barring the burial of Antigone's rebellious brother. In defiance, Antigone performs the burial rites and claims Creon's proclamation to be against the laws of the gods. The act shakes the foundations of civil life and prompts the questions: Who has control over life and death? What do we owe to the dead?
This event was made possible with generous co-sponsorships from UCSB Associated Students IVCRC, UCSB Classics Department, the Early Modern Center, UCSB Department of English, the Graduate Student Association, the Literature and Mind Center, the Medieval Literature Center, and the Walter H.
